How to use VNET Plus:
Demonstration version and authentication version:
With the installation of the VNET Plus application, you can use VNET Plus by just entering a few simple pieces of information.
For VNET Plus, we have “demonstration version” and “authentication version”.
The demonstration version is used for the purpose of observing what you can do with VNET Plus.
The demonstration version is not recommended for any practical use because user authentication is not done with this version.
The authentication version has the upward compatibility with the demonstration version.
The authentication version is for practical use and requires strict user authentication.
The network administrator of users (hereafter “Administrator”) has to define and register the network configuration on AS (Account Server for VNET Plus) in advance.
The registration is free of charge up to 5 users and 3 groups.
If and when the number of users exceeds the limit, you have to pay a certain pre-determined license fee.
After the payment of the license fee is made and confirmed, the limit of the number of users of VNET Plus is removed.
Acquisition of a subdomain name:
Administrator has to give a name to each VNET Plus device.
Naming rules are shown in "Details of VNET Plus".
For both demonstration and authentication versions, it is necessary to acquire a subdomain so that the VNET Plus names are not overlapped.
The subdomain name and password which you obtained for the demonstration version can also be used for the authentication version.
The following information needs to be registered from the user registration screen.
- Desired subdomain name
- Password
- Email address
- Company name
- Your personal full name
If the subdomain name has already been acquired by any other person, an “attention” message will be displayed, and you have to specify a different name.
How to use the demonstration version:
- Click on the "Download" button at the bottom of each page of the Manual to access the download site.
- Download the demonstration version and install it on your communication device.
- After the installation is completed, a specific icon will be displayed, and you click on it to start up the VNET Plus application.
- Enter the AS address, your name (i.e. your own FQDN), and the group name on the displayed screen.
- Press the Registration button.
This completes the preparation for each communication device.
Start up the device of your partner in the same way.
Make sure to include the acquired subdomain name in the FQDN so that your FQDN is not overlapped with the FQDN of another user of any other organization.
Note that communication is not possible unless the group name is the same between the communication pairs.
Now that the preparation is completed, please try to use your own applications with VNET Plus.
It is recommended that you verify the communication using VNET Plus on a LAN on your first use.
When accessing the Web server from your client PC, you enter the server’s name in the URL field of the browser.
Just replace the part of the server’s name with the VNET Plus name you have given.
Verify that you can communicate with your partner in exactly the same way, whether the communication partner is in the same LAN or at a remote location via the Internet.
Also, verify that communication is maintained without interruption even if you switch networks during communication.
It is recommended that group names be hidden to other parties.
The demonstration version is used solely for the purpose of observing what you can do with VNET Plus.
We are not responsible for any security problems caused by your operation of the demonstration version.
How to use the authentication version:
For the authentication version, Administrator is required to define the network.
You can use the same subdomain name and the password obtained for the demonstration version, for the account of Administrator.
As an independent network is established for each Administrator account, you do not need to worry about mutual interference among different Administrator accounts.
Administrator is to:
- Click on the "Login" button at the bottom of each page of the Manual to access the login screen.
- Enter the Administrator ID (the subdomain name obtained before) and the password from the login screen to get Administrator screen.
- From the displayed Administrator screen, register the names of communication devices to be used, as well as the group name, and define the communication group.
Each user under Administrator is to:
- Download and install the authentication version from the VNET Plus download site. With the completion of installation, a specific icon will be displayed in each device.
- Click on the icon to start up VNET Plus.
- Enter the AS address, your own FQDN, and the password on the displayed screen.
The password entered here is temporarily determined by Administrator and notified to each user in advance.
The user should change the password as he/she likes for subsequent use.
The extended password method can be applied here, too.
- Press on the login button. With the successful login, the screen will change to the subsequent page.
Start up the device of your communication partner in the same way.
Subsequent operations are the same as those for the demonstration version.
In the authentication version, communication is possible only among the same group members defined by Administrator.
What you experienced in the demonstration version, such as connectivity, mobility, and P2P security, can be realized in the authentication version exactly in the same way.
As the authentication version has an extremely high security, you can use it with full confidence.
If you use the extended password method, the security level will become higher while the user’s labor is the same as the simple password method, except that subsequent logins are possible only from the same communication device.
How to use VNET Plus Adapter:
The VNET Plus Adapter set on the side of the device not capable of installing VNET Plus for some reason replaces the functions of VNET Plus.
The VNET Plus Adapter is also given a unique FQDN.
VNET Plus Adapter Type C: To be set on the side a client, for instance, that initiates communication.
VNET Plus Adapter Type S: To be set on the side of a server that awaits communication.
Type C has both wired and Wi-Fi interfaces.
Connect the upper network to the wired side and connect the client terminals to the Wi-Fi side.
Clients under the Adapter can conduct both general communication and VNET Plus communication.
Type S is set near the server and connected by wire.
Set the parameter, which is, the IP address of the server.
Without changing the existing network at all, you can access the application server in the private address area from a remote location.
From the perspective of the application server, Type S looks like the same as the existing client terminal.
You can access 4 servers from one Type S Adaptor.
